I'm sure this question is all over the German internet, how-ever the translations are not great! :(

Can someone please explain in basics why I would need a H-zulassung, cheaper tax? easier emissions test? or anything else?

Also, how original does the car have to be? eventually I would like to change some things on the car, like a little lower to the ground -20 or -40mm, some better brakes, different wheels than original, probably superlites. Is it possible to to get a H-zulassung with these changes?

Danke! :)

These are the exact reasons.

All important assemblies have to be nearly 100 % original. Only contemporary changes are allowed. Here is the complete catalog of the general requirements for H-Zulassung ... unfortunally in German.

No ... as I wrote before: Only contemporary changes are allowed.

I thought I saw some cars modified with H-zulassung? Must have been my imagination! So I guess I need to skip H-zulassung to make the changes I want..? Or can I get the H-zulassung with car completely original, and then change it afterwards, only if it's legal of course?

If I think about it, modifications could all be considered "contemporary modifications", as people lowered their cars in the 70s, and put bigger brakes on etc?? Ideas about that?

Steve :)

I have two motorcycles with the h-zulassung and i know to get one with a non original car/cycle is the same problem like it is with all other changes, wich have to be checked and listet by the dekra/tüv. If the Testing-Ing have his lucky day, you'll get everything you want - if his favorit soccerteam lost the day bevor he will find more than thousand reasons for not giving your vehicle the h-zulassung. Try it... If your vehicle is old enough they even don't know whats original or not.

anyone know my best options for insurance??

the problem is that, I dont drive a normal "everyday car" or I think "Alltagsfahrzeug". and because of this I am finding it hard to get an oldtimer policy.

Firstly, many companys wont insure a car over 30 years of age, it is too old.
Secnodly, many companys wont insure an oldtimer without having a full time car.

I did get two quotes so far, 1200 from Allianz, and 900 from ADAC for the year fully covered, or "full damage" is that they called it.

I am 28/male/full license/2 years no claims in Ireland :)

Anyhow, On Monday I guess I will just have to pay up 900 euros for insurance :(

My Capri is insured by OCC. (168Eu/a)

This is a special Oldtimer Insurance...

But what you maybe have to know to understand where the problem is.

An H-Registred Vehicle is classified as a Historical Show objekt, and not legalized for normal daily use, this does not fit in the meaning of a historical cultural asset.

You do not get an attractive price because your vehicle is maybe so nice... you get it to ensure/improve or enrich a part of a history.

And this is the logical reason why they want you to have a dailydriver...

The most Oldtimer insurances also want to see a rating of this vehicle (OCC every two years) the vehicles has to be in min normal conditions...

Cheers Mark
