"Live data" is abbreviation (for me) like termin for possibility to send real time data from ECU into computer/diagnostic machine.
Due to "live data" you can read actual state of "whole" ECU (RPM, LOAD, MAF, MAP, lambda sensor, TPS sensor, lambda status, ....)

What I know, there is NO possibilities to read "live data" on 2.0 DOHC 8 valve.
If you don't have wires on pins 18 and 19 on ECU, it definitelly does not have comp.diagnostic.
See.

In the time there were many versions of EEC IV computers. Sometime around '89 was introduced in the USA the "new"/enhanced version of EEC IV with live data.
It uses a motorola chip for the data lines 81C62 (RAM + communication port).

But this new ECU were used in "new" engines in Europe as late as around year '92 on Zetecs.
Later some more types of engines were equiped by this ECU. (I have succesfully tested 1.4CVH from '97 with OBD connector)
You can see on some pages trapezoidal red diagnostic connector. It was used in the USA.
In Europe, what I know, 2pin connector like descibed above was used.

Wie ich auch schon geschrieben habe......sobald ein Fahrzeug OBD-II untestützt, also normal ab 2001, dann funktionieren eigentlich alle Adapter im Internet/eBay, die das Ford Protokoll benutzen:
--->>> Ford SAE J1850 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)

Solche Infos siehe:
http://www.obd-2.de/techn.html

Für OBD-II gibt es auch 100000nde Software-Programme.

________

Bitte hier nun wieder BACK-TO-TOPIC! (Auslesegeräte für NICHT-OBD-2 Steuergeräte) ... da siehts nämlich schwieriger aus.

I did not test OBDII commands on Scorpios. Sorry.
On many web pages you can see info about troubles with OBDII on Fords. Ford had bad support of OBDII protocol in years before 2000.
Even after 2000 is support minimal (only required), what I know.

AGV4000 is very nice interface.
But supports only OBDII prot., because there is WIDE spectrum of cars with OBDII. :respekt
My cable is very focused to Fords.

Try with any OBDII cables to do this (or send question to developer of AGV/ELM/...):
- read adaptation map
(moDiag supports this feature by "collecting" this data in long time while you drive, very bad usefull)
(my soft can directly read data from KAM memory of ECU, so reading of KAM takes 3 seconds)

- reset adaptations
- how fast is data received from car (how many PIDs/values is received per second)
(OBDII - ?5? or. ?10? values per second, my cable read 500 values/sec. due to using service protocol of Fords)
- change any state of ECU's pins - not possible with OBDII
- how many types and WHAT information can you read from ECU by the OBDII protocol ? (5 or 10 or 30 ?)
I can read from ECU information, for example, about states of FAILUREs modes (FMEM strategy) - for what sensor ECU now substites values due to failure,
if powersteer sensor is engaged, if aircondition is turned on and if it is commanded to ON, if FAN is engaged, states of automatic transmision, current through EGO sensor heater,
.....

Ford's IDS/FDS2000 does not use OBDII protocol, because it is very limited in amount of information and in speed too.
OBDII is primary for polution tests like lambda and catalysts.
Real service diagnostics is not about OBDII protocols. OBDII was intended for "check stations" or so.

One example how Ford "supported" OBDII commands:
- Ford Mondeo 2.5V6 from 96-97 year
- EEC V
- standard J1850-PWM/SCP bus

Picture here.

You can see how ECU answer some data on Mode 01, Pid 01 without problem.
But Mode 03 - reading of DTC does NOT support and returns NOTHING ("NO DATA" arrived from interface).
Scantool.net soft (and Obd-diag does the same) badly shows "No trouble codes", it should be "No answer from ECU !"
So, some obdii commands are supported, but some not.
From year 2000 there is better supporting of obdii, but still obdii protocol is not real diagnostic protocol used in IDS, ...

Hello,

believe it or not, I can read and reset error codes from engine and automatic transmission and also see live data of the engine sensors via OBD2 on my '95 Scorpio Cosworth. I'm using a quite simple ELM-based OBD2<-->RS232 interface which I built on my own. I'm pretty shure that there are more functions accessible, if only one knew something about the Ford-specific communication details.

Cheers!

Till
